The Future of Agriculture in Bangladesh


Introduction: Agriculture is one of the most important sectors for the survival of a nation. Bangladesh is an agricultural country and it has a lot of potential for the future. The future development of agriculture will depend on many situations. Taking important steps will open new possibilities in agriculture of Bangladesh.


Agricultural lands: Agricultural land is one of the most important elements for developing agriculture. In future, agricultural lands in the country will continue to decrease due to urbanization and construction of new houses, roads, industries etc and Bangladesh has to continue maintaining its self-sufficiency in agricultural production. It is expected that scientists will be able to continue the development of improved varieties of different crops in order to keep up with global warming, as has been done in the past in developing drought, salt and flood-tolerant varieties of different crops. In addition to research and extension activities, necessary input supply for agriculture production, like seed, fertilizer, irrigation, farm machinery and pesticides will be continued in future. 


Technological Development: Technological development in agriculture is one of the most important elements for developing the overall agriculture sector.  Scientists are developing new technologies in agriculture regularly. In future, the pace of this development will be enhanced as modern facilities for research have been developed and will be continued. Due to the development of information and communication technologies, scientists of the country are well-trained to adapt any new modern technology, developed anywhere in the world. Extension of technology to farmers needs even longer time. There are many technologies that will be adapted in future by farmers and commercial entrepreneurs, which will increase the total agriculture production. So, technology should be developed for future agriculture.


Agricultural Marketing Policy: Price of agricultural products depends on overall development of the agriculture sector. Traders need to be aware to set the right price for the product. The business must continue with the right policy. Then business in agriculture will be successful.


Conclusion: Bangladesh has a lot of potential for developing in the agricultural sector.  We have to make them usable by making proper use of the country's resources. Then the door of new possibilities of Bangladesh will be opened.
