Impacts of Lockdown on Working-Class People



Introduction: Lockdown brings out a lot of oppression in human life. The impact of the Lockdown is expanding daily on the poor due to job loss and other shocks to income and diminished. Working-class people are facing many problems like Psychological and livelihood for a lockdown period. 


Psychological Impact: The effect of lockdown on working-class people is really a matter of concern. Three attributes like stress, higher level of stress, and panic were evaluated to understand the psychological impact of lockdown on working-class people. The major people are feeling stressed due to the lockdown period. Many of them lost their jobs and income due to lockdown, and the borrowed loan from relatives, friends, or others ultimately made them stressed. The level of stress was significantly different for age and occupation groups. Fear of lockdown, lack of jobs and income, all had made their life panic-stricken. On the other hand, this Psychological impact is really a great matter for working-class people. 


Livelihood Impact:  The effect of lockdown for working-class people is really bad. It had a negative impact on the livelihoods of the general public, especially on lower-income people who usually have a hand-to-mouth existence. The level of livelihood impact was high to extreme. This level of impact indicates that the lower-income people were getting more marginalized than before and were becoming a member of the extremely poor due to the lockdown period. Many poor people were worried about how they would manage their family expenses during the lockdown. The level of livelihood impact was significantly different across sociodemographic variables. Without earning during the lockdown, many are not able to feed their families. For this, the working people in this lockdown are at extreme livelihood risk.


Conclusion: Working people in lockdown are facing psychological and livelihood problems.  Lockdown has brought huge socioeconomic and psychological sufferings in human life all over the world. Even though all groups of people in society have been affected, the lower-income people have become more vulnerable, though they do not have enough income.  And their lives are at stake.
